Interior Department Allocates $71 Million to Electrify Tribal Homes

Distributes final round of funding from Tribal Electrification Program.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) distributed $71 million to Native American Tribal Nations for the electrification of homes without electricity and support retrofitting for zero-emissions energy systems. This is the second and final round of funding distributed through the Tribal Electrification Program.

In 2000, the DOI estimated that 14 percent of homes on Native American reservations had no access to electricity, around 10 times higher than the national average at the time. That number has been significantly reduced over the last two decades, but 16,805 Tribal homes were still found to be unelectrified in 2022.

“Every family deserves to have access to reliable, affordable electricity,” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “This new program is building reliable, resilient energy that Tribes and communities can rely on, and advancing our work to tackle the climate crisis and build a clean energy future.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland to be led by the Lord as she heads the Interior Department.
  • For Interior officials as they allocate funding under the electrification program.
