House Implements New AI Policy for Safe and Secure Use in Legislative Offices

New framework balances innovation and security, guiding AI adoption for approved tasks like scheduling, translation, and transcription in the House.

The Committee on House Administration and the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) introduced a new policy for the safe implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools across House offices.

“The policy is based on a reliable framework which will continue to evolve as AI technology continues to develop. The policy is to assist Members and staff to safeguard potentially sensitive information while also empowering them to leverage AI to better serve the American people,” stated Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor.

The policy, which went into effect last month, focuses on reducing security and privacy risks while enabling legislators and staff to use AI tools in approved capacities, such as scheduling, translation, and transcription services. The CAO emphasized a risk-based approach to AI approval, noting that AI tools will not be used for sensitive data or processes for the time being. The framework will evolve as technology advances, ensuring that AI is used safely and responsibly in legislative functions.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for federal legislators and their staff as they utilize AI technology.
  • For the administrative heads and managers as they seek to implement AI security measures and guidelines.
