FAA Administrator Set to Testify Before Congress

House committee will investigate FAA’s role in “Boeing’s Broken Safety Culture.”

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Mike Whitaker will testify before the House of Representatives Transportation Committee on September 24, answering questions about the efficacy of FAA oversight. Administrator Whitaker will then testify at a second hearing on September 25, appearing before the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations at its hearing titled “FAA Oversight of Boeing’s Broken Safety Culture.”

The FAA has faced heightened scrutiny after a door plug blew off a Boeing plane mid-flight in January. Subcommittee chair Senator Richard Blumenthal said that a lack of FAA intervention must be partially to blame for the incident.

“Instead of encouraging workers to report quality and safety concerns, Boeing’s culture pushed workers to conceal problems that required federal inspectors’ attention,” Senator Blumenthal said.”The FAA has to explain what they knew and when they knew it. Boeing’s broken safety culture is in desperate need of repair, and the FAA has an essential role to play.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Whitaker as he seeks to improve the FAA’s safety reviews of Boeing and other airplane makers.
  • For members of the House and Senate as they consider his testimony and evidence.
