This funding supports environmental restoration for 4 tribal nations.
The Department of the Interior has announced an investment of over $12 million, from the president’s Investing in American agenda and Biparisan Infrastructure Law, to help four Tribal Nations clean up orphaned oil and gas wells on their lands. The funding addresses the environmental hazards and pollution caused by these wells, which pose risks such as methane leaks, water contamination, and harm to local wildlife.
The investment will support efforts to plug and remediate these wells, restore affected habitats, and enhance the Tribes’ ability to manage and execute these cleanup projects, protecting public health and fostering economic opportunities in Tribal communities.
“We are making millions of dollars available for Tribally led projects that are addressing legacy pollution and creating good-paying jobs,” said Secretary Deb Haaland.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Haaland as she advocates for the remediation of abandoned oil wells.
- For Tribal leaders as they utilize the funding to plug and clean-up the orphaned wells.
