Issue 663 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

At a campaign event this week in Pittsburgh, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed opposition to a Japanese company acquiring U.S. Steel. Agreeing with President Joe Biden’s stated position, she said that U.S. Steel “should remain American-owned and American-operated,” and that the “historic American company… is vital for our nation to maintain strong American steel companies.”

Pray for the president, vice president, and administration officials to seek the Lord as they evaluate global commerce and enterprise.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Mark Kelly stated that there is no evidence of illegal immigrants voting in U.S. elections. A bill that would require proof of citizenship in order to vote has been proposed for inclusion in Congress’ appropriations legislation. House Speaker Mike Johnson has acknowledged the lack of proof but stated, “Everyone knows it’s a problem.”

Pray for members of both chambers of Congress as they address issues surrounding illegal immigration.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Representative Mark Green of Tennessee, has scheduled the first congressional hearing into the global CrowdStrike outage. The company’s senior vice president of counter adversary operations will testify before the committee later this month.

Pray for the congressional committee members as they investigate cybersecurity issues in the private sector.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

At the end of August, a federal judge granted a 14-day stay on the policy from President Biden’s administration that would facilitate the spouses of U.S. citizens obtaining legal residency status. Sixteen state attorneys general brought a suit against the policy due to the millions in public service costs for health care, education, and law enforcement for migrants. The judge wrote that the “claims are substantial and warrant closer consideration than the court has been able to afford to date.“

Pray for discernment for federal judges who are hearing and ruling on cases related to immigration and border security.
