CPSC Issues Recall for Samsung Electric Ranges

The company has received over 300 reports of front-mounted knobs causing roughly 250 fires since 2013.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall this month for 30 Samsung electric range models that pose a fire hazard. The front knobs of select models have been unintentionally activated in at least 300 instances, leading to around 250 fires.

The stoves included in the recall have been sold nationwide in appliance stores as well as Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Best Buy. Samsung is making free knob locks and covers available to consumers to prevent accidentally turning on the range.

CPSC stated, “Consumers using the recalled ranges without knob locks or covers are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the knobs, to check the range knobs to ensure they are off before leaving the home or going to bed, and to not leave objects on the range when the range is not in use.“
