U.S. Boosts Middle Eastern Presence as Tensions Increase

The defense secretary deploys a jet squadron and replacement strike group.

The Defense Department announced an increase in the U.S. military presence in the Middle East. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered a fighter jet squadron to the region and is sending the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group to replace the Theodore Roosevelt. Ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers will also be deployed to Europe and the Middle East, along with land-based missile defense systems.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh stated, “Secretary Austin has ordered adjustments to U.S. military posture designed to improve U.S. force protection, to increase support for the defense of Israel, and to ensure the United States is prepared to respond to various contingencies.“

“As we have demonstrated since October and again in April, the United States’ global defense is dynamic and the Department of Defense retains the capability to deploy on short notice to meet evolving national security threats,“ she continued. “The United States also remains intently focused on de-escalating tensions in the region and pushing for a ceasefire as part of a hostage deal to bring the hostages home and end the war in Gaza.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Austin as he deploys additional U.S. military support to the Middle East.
  • For the president, vice president, and secretary of state to be discerning as they promote a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
