She speaks about school food programs and children relying on school meals.
First Lady Jill Biden spoke at a Summer Nutrition Event this week, highlighting the importance of summer food programs for children who suffer from hunger while school is out.
The first lady said, “During the school year, many kids count on getting a meal from their school. But parents’ paychecks don’t get bigger just because it’s summer break. And that means hard choices and missed meals for their families.“
She continued that her husband’s administration “is giving parents whose children receive free and reduced-price lunch a little extra help to buy groceries: $120 for each of their kids.“
The first lady highlighted the SUN Bucks program, which supplies $120 for each child and provides “meals and snacks at no cost at summer meal sites like schools and camps.“ She added that the administration also started “a Meals To-Go program that allows families in rural areas to pick up a meal or have it delivered to their home during the summer.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For First Lady Jill Biden as she advocates for summer meal programs for children who are at risk of being under fed.
- For discernment for the president and his advisors as they create and launch programs to address the challenges facing the nation.
- For the parents who are struggling to make ends meet and keep adequate food on the table and the children who are experiencing hunger.
