UN claims U.S. military strike on Iran a violation of international law.
Late last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded to conclusions of a UN human rights analyst that the American drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in January were a violation of international law. The report described the attack on General Soleimani “the first known incident in which a state invokes self-defense as justification for an attack against a government official outside a declared armed conflict.”
Secretary Pompeo rejected the credibility of the report, calling the results ”spurious.” He stated, “The strike that killed Gen. Soleimani was in response to an escalating series of armed attacks in preceding months by the Islamic Republic of Iran and militias it supports on U.S. forces and interests in the Middle East region.”
The Humans Rights Council of the UN often includes nations with records of human rights violations. The United States, which left the body in 2018, has often criticized the group of bias against both the U.S. and Israel.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the U.S. to be an instrument to spread peace on earth.
- For Secretary Pompeo to be used by God to lead the State Department effectively.
- That God would give the president’s administration wisdom in dealing with the UN.
