USDA Distributes $42 Million for Tribal Food Management

The funding will support Indigenous animal harvesting, school meal programs, and agriculture

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced a number of actions to support Tribal food sovereignty, awarding $42 million in grants to Indigenous animal harvesting and meat processing organizations. Other actions include distributing $18 million for Tribal forest protections and an additional $2.3 million to serve indigenous foods in school meal programs.

“As part of our commitment to Tribes, we are making good on our promises and investing in projects that advance food sovereignty and self-determination for Tribal Nations,” said Secretary Vilsack. “These investments create economic opportunities in Tribal communities, enhance co-stewardship of precious forests and grasslands, and ensure Indigenous foods are available to Tribal students participating in school meal programs, all while furthering USDA’s goal of creating a more resilient food system.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack to receive God’s guidance as he heads the USDA.
  • For USDA officials as they implement support for food sovereignty for Tribal nations.
