Tell Somebody

One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. – Psalm 145:4

In Don Francisco’s 1979 song “Gotta Tell Somebody,” he relates the story of Jairus whose daughter was sick (Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5: 21-43). While Jesus was on His way to their house, the daughter died. Jesus brushed past the mourners and raised the little girl from the dead. He told Jairus not to tell anyone. In his song, Don Francisco eloquently portrays the excitement that Jairus must have felt receiving his daughter back from the dead and went about telling everyone (Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43). You can sense the same kind of excitement in David’s psalm. He raves about the kindness of God, His mighty works and how He takes care of His people.

How much more should Christians be compelled to tell others of God’s steadfast love, Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, and His eternal promises for those who believe? In a volatile atmosphere like America has been experiencing lately, it’s easy to play it safe and hold back about God’s works. That’s why all believers need His boldness. In Acts 4: 29-31 the believers prayed for boldness to speak His word and they received it.

Pray for believers in the United States to put God first. Peace, prosperity and health are important, for sure, but the eternal soul is much more important. Pray for boldness, especially for parents and grandparents to share God’s truths with their children and grandchildren and to remind them of what they have seen God do in their lives and in the lives of others. Pray for Americans to have boldness and retain freedom to share what they believe in schools, government and to the general public.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 145:4

One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
