General Thomas Bussiere, USAF
Commander, Air Force Global Strike Command
Thomas A. Bussiere is a graduate of Norwich University and was commissioned into the Air Force through ROTC. He also graduated from the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies and the U.S. Army War College Advanced Strategic Arts Program.
He has served in flying, staff, and command assignments. He commanded the 325th Bomb Squadron, the 13th Bomb Squadron, the 509th Operations Group, and the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. He commanded the Alaskan Command, United States Northern Command; Eleventh Air Force, Pacific Air Forces; Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska; Eighth Air Force; Joint-Global Strike Operations Center, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, and Joint Functional Component for Global Strike; Task Force 204, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
General Bussiere served as Deputy Commander of USSTRATCOM before he became commander of the Air Force Global Strike Command in December 2022.
He is a command pilot with over 3,400 flight hours.

General Thomas Bussiere, Commander of the Air Force Global Strike Command, recently oversaw the testing of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The Minuteman III launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, is part of the service’s testing of the safety and reliability of U.S. nuclear deterrent forces. The command reported that over 300 such tests have taken place and that world events have not influenced the recent test.
“Our ICBM force provides 24/7 strategic deterrence and stands ready to respond at a moment’s notice as the most responsive leg of the nuclear triad,” said General Bussiere. “Our test launches demonstrate and confirm our readiness to deliver a safe, secure, effective, and credible, global combat capability.”
A second ICBM launch is scheduled for Thursday.
