The administration refuses to turn audio over to congressional leaders.
The White House and Department of Justice sent letters to the House of Representatives asserting executive privilege over the recordings of Special Counsel Robert Hur. The House Oversight and Judiciary Committees have been preparing a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for not complying with the congressional subpoena for the recordings.
Since legislators already have access to transcripts of the special counsel’s interviews with the special counsel regarding the mishandling of classified documents, administration officials claim there is no need for them to access the audio.
House Oversight Chair James Comer of Kentucky stated all the communications were necessary to determine “whether President Biden willfully retained classified information and documents related to, among other places, Ukraine to assist his family’s business dealings or to enrich his family.”
