The wife of Senator Menedez is preparing for surgery and will face a separate trial.
On Thursday, Federal Judge Sidney Stein ordered that the trials of Senator Bob Menendez and his wife Nadine be separated due to her preparations for surgery. Federal prosecutors had requested on Wednesday that Senator Bob Menendez’s corruption trial be delayed so that his wife could undergo surgery and recover.
Nadine Menendez originally requested an indefinite adjournment, which prosecutors denied. She also requested that she be tried separately from Senator Menendez, which prosecutors had also denied. Nadine has not disclosed what surgery she is undergoing or what medical issues it will be addressing.
Senator Bob Menendez and Nadine Menendez are being tried for accepting lavish bribes to influence state and U.S. policies on behalf of the governments of Egypt and Qatar. Gifts included multiple gold bars, thousands of dollars in cash, and a luxury car.
