Leaders of the U.S. and China conducted the first direct phone call since November.
Chinese President Xi Jinping warned President Joe Biden this week that the U.S.’s increasing limits on Chinese technology exports is “not de-risking but creating risks.” The two presidents spoke in a two-hour phone call, the first direct conversation between them since a meeting in November.
The White House reported that President Biden emphasized “the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the rule of law and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.”
China’s official Xinhua news agency similarly depicted a cordial conversation. President Xi said that ties between China and the U.S. are beginning to stabilize but stated that they could still quickly “slide into conflict or confrontation.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the president and administration advisors as they determine policies regarding trade and technology from China.
- For members of Congress as they assess threats to national security from Chinese technology.
