77,700 borrowers approved for a total of $5.8 billion in forgiven loans
The Department of Education announced this month that an additional $5.8 billion in federal student loans have been forgiven.
President Biden’s administration continues to evaluate certain demographics for eligibility for student loan debt relief. This round of loan forgiveness, made after updates were made to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, applies to public service workers who were within two years of paying off their debt. This loan cancellation benefits 77,700 people.
“For too long, our nation’s teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters, and other public servants faced logistical troubles and trap doors when they tried to access the debt relief they were entitled to under the law,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. “With this announcement, the Biden-Harris Administration is showing how we’re taking further steps not only to fix those trap doors, but also to expand opportunity to many more Americans.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration officials to receive God’s wisdom regarding loan forgiveness.
- For discernment for Secretary Cardona as he heads the Department of Education.
