Three U.S. troops were killed, dozens injured in overnight drone attack.
Late Sunday local time, a drone attack was carried out in Syria, killing three U.S. troops. Latest reports suggest at least 34 more were injured. U.S. forces were assigned here to be in an advise-and-assist supporting role. This appears to be the first known attack on this outpost and it is unknown why air defenses did not intercept the drone. This marks the first deadly military action against U.S. service members in the Gaza conflict.
While full details are not available yet, President Joe Biden did say that “We know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.” He continued with “These service members embodied the very best of our nation: Unwavering in their bravery. Unflinching in their duty. Unbending in their commitment to our country — risking their own safety for the safety of their fellow Americans, and our allies and partners with whom we stand in the fight against terrorism. … have no doubt – we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing.”
U.S. officials will continue working to identify the group responsible for the attack and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “we will take all necessary actions to defend the United States, our troops, and our interests.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the families of the troops who lost their lives.
- For all U.S. troops serving across the world.
- For U.S. officials as they gather intelligence, plan a response, and seek to protect our troops.
- For the ongoing conflict within the Middle East and for safety of American citizens who are living or travelling in the area.
