This week, the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in two cases regarding the Magnuson-Stevens Act, which governs fishery management in federal waters.
The court heard challenges to the federal policy of the National Marine Fisheries Service requiring those operating fishing vessels to compensate federal observers who oversee their operations on behalf of the government.
The cases bring another instance before the justices of the need to clarify or decide the extent of federal agencies’ authority to regulate private industry.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the justices of the Supreme Court as they hear arguments regarding the extent of the powers of federal agencies.
- For U.S. officials to govern their agencies within existing laws and according to the freedoms enumerated in the Constitution.
- For the president and his legal advisors as they assess and choose nominees to federal courts.
