How much better to get wisdom than gold! – Proverbs 16:16

The price of one ounce of gold on December 21 was $2,030.32, just a small difference from the day before, but up more than $200 from a year ago. Forbes and the Burch Gold Group say now is the time to invest in gold, calling it “relatively safe.” King Solomon, who had been granted divine wisdom to help him rule over the people of Israel, wrote getting wisdom is better than gold. In one translation of Proverbs 3:14, Solomon writes that wisdom “yields better returns” than gold. God wants you to invest in wisdom!

If you are like many, there are days when you feel that just an ounce of wisdom for an urgent situation would be sufficient to pull you through. Solomon says you can get that kind of wisdom. You begin by walking with the Lord. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning,” Proverbs 1:7 says. When you read His Word, contemplate it in your mind, obey it, and let it guide your day. Wisdom also comes from being in fellowship with people who are following God devotedly; they often have insight to share. Then watch the lives of your spiritual teachers and mentors.

King Solomon also said the person who finds wisdom is blessed, and along with it, that person is happy, fulfilled, and productive. Pray for believers serving as judges in the nation’s courts to lean on the wisdom of the Lord as much as they do upon the precedent of earlier rulings.

Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. ¹³I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. ¹⁴And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
