One officer remains blocked by Senator Schmitt of Missouri due to concerns about diversity.
The U.S. Senate confirmed the remaining military officer promotions this week that had previously been blocked by Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. He had instituted the procedural block in protest over the policy of the Defense Department that violated the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of taxpayer funding to cover abortion procedures.
Senator Tuberville experienced pressure from within his own party after blocking the usual en masse confirmation of military promotions for 11 months. No concessions were made by the administration regarding the reimbursement for abortion expenses.
Ten generals and an admiral were confirmed before the Senate recessed for Christmas. One U.S. Air Force colonel remains blocked from promotion to brigadier general by Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senator Tuberville as he attempted to ensure the government adhered to the Hyde Amendment and stood against the public funding of abortions in the military.
- For members of the Senate to serve with integrity and uphold their oaths of office.
