A high-speed rail line between Nevada and California is included.
President Joe Biden said his administration has authorized $8.2 billion in funding for ten passenger rail projects. He made the announcement on Friday in Las Vegas, which is expected to be the terminus for the high-speed rail line that would begin in California. Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County is expected to be the other end of the high-speed rail from Las Vegas. The president spent Friday night and Saturday in Los Angeles.
“Any American who has traveled to other countries has likely seen how countries in Europe and East Asia approach passenger rail,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said about the new funding. “[They] return home to wonder why Americans can’t have that too.”
The funding comes under the infrastructure law passed two years ago by Congress. The pair of electric-powered high-speed trains are expected to be completed in time for the Summer Olympics of 2028 which will be hosted in Los Angeles.
