Advocates for Police Reform.
On Wednesday, one day after the funeral of his brother George Floyd, Philonise Floyd traveled to Washington to speak before Congress about the need for comprehensive police reform in the United States. “I’m tired of the pain. … I’m here today to ask you to make it stop. Stop the pain. Stop us from being tired,” he said. George Floyd was killed by a police officer who knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
“His life mattered. All our lives matter. Black lives matter,” Philonise Floyd said. “I just, I just wish I could get him back.” Currently, there are several proposed bills that Congress is considering, with legislation that could create community oversight boards, ban chokeholds, and limit the amount of military equipment that police departments could buy from the military.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That God would use Congress to protect all Americans from prejudiced policing.
- For the House and Senate to put forward bi-partisan police reform.
- That God would bring healing and hope to the Floyd family.
