A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday in the San Francisco Bay area between President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific forum, part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.
The U.S. has increased rules on investments and exports to China and has taken action regarding that nation’s use of forced labor, human rights violations, and the support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
A White House official stated, “We know efforts to shape or reform China over several decades have failed, but we expect China to be around and to be a major player on the world stage for the rest of our lifetimes.”
President Biden is also expected to communicate that the U.S. will respond promptly to provocations by Iran in the Middle East as China has been forging a relationship with Iran.
