The nation’s deficits and national debt are too high.
House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana told the House that he is giving consideration to the establishment of a debt commission as the deficits continue and the national debt continues to rise.
“The consequences if we don’t act now are unbearable. We have a duty to the American people to explain this to them so they understand it well,” Speaker Johnson said. “We are going to establish a bipartisan debt commission to begin working on this crisis immediately.”
The chairman of the House Budget Committee, Representative Jodey Arrington of Texas, said, “We need to be clear: both parties have contributed to our out-of-control spending and unsustainable spending. We’ll need both parties to make structural changes to fix it. A bipartisan debt commission is a great place to start.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Congressman Arrington as he heads the House Budget Committee.
- For discernment for Speaker Johnson as he considers measures to reduce government spending.
- For the members of the bipartisan debt commission as they are appointed and assess the state of the national debt.
