House Bill Would Give Israel Aid from IRS Funds

House legislators want to avoid using “new money.”

President Joe Biden has requested in excess of $100 billion in total military aid to go to Ukraine for its war against Russia, to Israel for its conflict with Hamas, some funding for border security and immigration processing, and an amount that would go to aid Taiwan. The Senate has been working on a measure that keeps all such funding together.

In the House, a bill known as the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act calls for separating Israel from the package, using funds that have already been appropriated for the use of the Internal Revenue Service.

Speaker Mike Johnson wants to “bifurcate” the funds but Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says the Senate will not separate the funding.

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, supported the Speaker’s position, saying, “We need to start breaking the mold around here. This isn’t working. We’re $33.5 trillion in debt. The old way of doing business has failed, is failing. We need to approach things differently. From my standpoint… we need a different form of governance.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Speaker Johnson as he presides over the lower chamber of Congress.
  • For the Senate majority and minority leaders as they consider the legislation crafted by the House of Representatives.
  • For the president and administration officials to work with Congress regarding military aid.
