Threats have been made against Jewish college students.
U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres, who represents the Bronx in New York City, has called on the Department of Education to respond to bigotry against Jewish students on college campuses. He said the recent antisemitism of Cornell University’s Discussion Forum is “horrifying.”
“Threatening violence against Jewish students. Dehumanizing Jews as ‘rats’ and ‘excrement’ to be ‘eliminated.’ Advocating for the genocidal destruction of both the Jewish people and the Jewish State,” Congressman Torres said. “The academic establishment can no longer turn a blind eye to… antisemitism on American college campuses.”
A White House official said the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department are working with Cornell campus law enforcement, and agencies at other colleges and universities across the country as well, in an effort to address the significant rise of antisemitism.
Meanwhile at Cornell, the Jewish center is under guard and students are being advised to avoid the campus kosher dining hall.
