Numbers who seek illegal entry into the U.S. have increased year over year.
The U.S. Border Patrol reports that, for the fiscal year 2023, 151 people who tried to enter the country illegally were identified on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist. This is an increase from 99 in 2022 and 15 in 2021.
Border Patrol encounters people from 175 nations at the border, including those from the Middle East and China. The number of getaways remains a concern with some estimating the total number of getaways during President Biden’s administration to exceed 1.5 million.
Customs and Border Protection said more than 8,000 “special interest” migrants crossed over in September, which is a thousand more than in August. “Special interest” individuals come from Egypt, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen. A number from Uzbekistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Jordan, and Mauritania were also encountered. Data from CBP does not include how many migrants were removed or released into the U.S. with an immigration court date.
The war in Israel has increased concerns about militants who might be crossing the U.S. southern border, which heightens the potential for national security risks.
