A full vote of the House is not yet scheduled.
Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana won the secret ballot from members of his party in the House on Wednesday to serve as the next Speaker, edging out House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan of Ohio.
Congressman Scalise, who presently serves as the House Majority Leader, announced months ago that he had been diagnosed with blood cancer and would be undergoing treatment for several months.
The threshold to win the speakership in a vote of the full House is a majority of 217 votes. It is unclear when the full House will vote on the Speaker, with some suggesting it could be as long as a week away.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Congressman Scalise as he prepares for the vote for the speakership.
- For members of the House as they consider for whom they will vote to head the House.
- For Congressman McHenry as he fills the role of speaker pro tempore.
