Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8
Presidential candidate Theodore Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on this day in 1912. Saloonkeeper John Schrank shot at close range, but the bullet was obstructed by Roosevelt’s glasses case and a speech manuscript in his coat pocket, preventing fatal injuries. Roosevelt proceeded to deliver his scheduled speech with the bullet lodged in his body, declaring, “You see, it takes more than one bullet to kill a Bull Moose.” Roosevelt continued his campaign but was defeated by Woodrow Wilson in the election. How do you respond when something throws you off balance, physically or emotionally? Have you learned to trust in the Lord to the degree that you have confidence in Him regardless of how life circumstances appear? When crises occur, it can be difficult to maintain composure and remain level-headed. Just remember, the Lord is your rock and your salvation, in whom you can take refuge (2 Samuel 22:3).
