Discussion at the White House centered on contract negotiations.
President Joe Biden and senior staff met with United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain at the White House on Wednesday, where they discussed current contract negotiations between workers and top American automakers.
The UAW’s worker contracts with Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, formerly Chrysler, are set to expire this September. To keep up with inflation and the higher cost of living, Fain said that the UAW will be negotiating a new contract with the companies to accommodate those things.
With the current trajectory of other union bargaining across economic sectors, the UAW is not optimistic regarding the negotiations. Fain said the UAW and its workers are prepared to strike if negotiations do not go well.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for President Biden and his labor officials as they assess the various union negotiations taking place across the nation.
- For Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su as she oversees the department’s engagement regarding the representation of workers.
