Reservations on the bill remain strong.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote on a bill to suspend the debt ceiling Wednesday evening. The bill was negotiated by Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden, and it would suspend the debt ceiling for two years.
The House Rules Committee narrowly voted to advance the debt ceiling agreement Tuesday evening.
If passed, it will move to the Senate, and then to the president for his signature in time for the new deadline set by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen of June 7.
In addition to a no-limits debt ceiling until January 2026, the 99-page bill includes provisions related to spending, student loan cancellation, and work requirements for welfare.
