Monica Bertagnolli is a top cancer scientist.
President Joe Biden nominated well-known cancer surgeon Monica Bertagnolli to be director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The previous NIH director Francis Collins left his position in 2022 after serving for 12 years under three administrations. The White House spent over a year deliberating potential nominees before landing on Bertagnolli.
“Dr. Bertagnolli is a world-class physician-scientist whose vision and leadership will ensure NIH continues to be an engine of innovation to improve the health of the American people,” President Biden stated.
Dr. Bertagnolli will have to be confirmed by the Senate in order to assume the position of NIH director. If she is confirmed, she will be the second woman to head the federal government’s medical research agency.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his advisors as they determine who to appoint to positions in the government.
- For Dr. Bertagnolli as she prepares for Senate confirmation hearings.
- For wisdom for members of the Senate as they conduct hearings and vote on the president’s nominees.
