He advocates for increases despite skepticism.
Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Danny Werfel testified before the Senate Finance Committee, presenting the proposed 2024 budget for the IRS. Commissioner Werfel requested a $1.8 billion budget increase, advocating for a $14.1 billion annual budget for 2024 in comparison to $12.3 billion in 2023.
“It’s not enough resources to fund a tax system in an economy that grows in size and complexity every year,” the IRS commissioner said of the fiscal 2023 IRS budget.
The IRS would use part of that budget to fire nearly 20,000 new staff to help process annual tax filings. Members of the House majority are generally against providing more funding to the IRS and are proposing spending cuts in active financial debates.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Commissioner Werfel as he seeks increases in the IRS budget.
- For members of the Senate as they consider the reasoning for more funding for the IRS.
- For representatives in the House as they negotiate over the federal budget.
