The group addressed aggressive nations, the global economy, and climate change.
Diplomats representing the U.S., the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the EU, known as the G7, concluded their weekend meetings on Monday in Hiroshima, Japan, after outlining their top priorities.
Among the discussions, the G7 agreed to take a firm stance against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the threats of China toward Taiwan, and the missile tests of North Korea. Acceleration of green energy research and a goal of zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050 were also among the topics.
Addressing the global economy, they agreed to an overhaul of international tax laws. They took a stand “against forced labor practices in the agriculture, solar, and garment sectors,” and called for “supply chain resilience and technology standards so that democracies are aligned and supporting each other.”
Secretary of State Blinken and Energy Secretary Granholm, among others, represented the U.S. at the G7 meetings. President Biden has called for those who have committed war crimes in the Russia-Ukraine conflict to be held accountable.
