Fee-Free Family Seating Proposed for Airlines

The transportation secretary wrote to Congress regarding updates to FAA Act.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg wrote to members of Congress proposing an amendment to part of the FAA Act to address the abilities of parents to have their young children seated near them on commercial airlines.

Secretary Buttigieg wrote, “Upon review of the airlines’ seating policies, DOT remains concerned that airlines’ policies do not guarantee adjacent seats for young children traveling with a family member and that airlines do not guarantee the adjacent seating at no additional cost.“

He continued, “The new provision would explicitly state that U.S. and foreign airlines shall seat young children adjacent to at least one accompanying adult at no additional cost, subject to certain conditions such as the family being booked in the same class of service.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Buttigieg as he advocates for parents flying with young children.
  • For members of Congress to be prudent as they consider the request for legislation.
  • For FAA officials as they conduct air safety investigations.
