Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
President Biden’s administration unveiled a new Conventional Arms Transfer policy that places stricter guidelines for the sale or transfer of arms to foreign nations. The policy would deny the transfer if it “is more likely than not” that the arms would be used in genocide, crimes against humanity, attacks on civilians, or other human rights abuses.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has pledged more than $444 million in additional aid to Yemen. He called the situation in that nation “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis” of conflict, economic instability, food insecurity, and other issues. Since the conflict began, over $5.4 billion in aid has been provided to Yemen.
Pray for wisdom for President Biden and his closest advisers.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Representative Mike Waltz of Florida introduced a bill that would prohibit schools owned by the Chinese government to operate junior military programs, such as a Junior ROTC. “This is just even broader than education — anything that is owned or controlled by China, by law under the national security law that [Chinese President] Xi [Jinping] has passed, has to essentially do the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party, whether that is a student that may have access to a university supercomputer or whether that is a company that is told to act in a certain manner,” Congressman Waltz said, noting, “It is against Chinese law for them not to respond” to what the CCP requests.
Representative Gary Palmer of Alabama, introduced legislation opposing a $27 billion “green bank” grant program. The EPA administrator said the program “will mobilize billions more in private capital to reduce pollution and improve public health, all while lowering energy costs, increasing energy security, creating good paying jobs, and boosting economic prosperity in communities across the country.”
Pray for members of Congress as they consider legislation that affects both foreign and domestic policies.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The Supreme Court has declined to hear the appeal of a lower court ruling upholding a state law restricting boycotts against Israel. The judgment determined that restraints on contractors’ commercial activity by Arkansas do not violate the First Amendment.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a case on whether or not the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s structure established by Congress for funding violates the Constitution. At the heart of the case is the payday loan industry.
Pray for the Supreme Court Justices as they review requests for taking up certain cases on appeal and determine the judicial worthiness of their time and decisions.
