For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. – Titus 2:11-12
On this day in 1794, the Slave Trade Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President George Washington. The act prohibited “the carrying on the Slave Trade from the United States to any foreign place or country.“ The import of slaves to the U.S. became illegal in 1807 and finally the ownership of and trade in human beings was outlawed entirely by the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865. Jesus came to set the captives free and to give humanity, which has been naturally enslaved to sin, new life. For some believers, the liberation from wrong mindsets, habits, and behaviors occurs instantaneously. For others, it can happen incrementally, over months, years, or even decades. Whatever your circumstances are today, keep looking to the Savior for freedom and healing. He is faithful to redeem your life and situation.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- That U.S. governing authorities would address the modern-day exploitation of and trafficking in human lives.
- For American law enforcement officials who seek to free those who are victims and survivors of trafficking.
