Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army General Mark Milley joined other NATO defense ministers at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels, Belgium, this week. After the meeting, the two leaders held a press conference, where where they responded to questions about Russia’s offensive tactics, the downed flying objects over the U.S., and supplies for Ukraine’s defense.
General Milley celebrated the success Ukraine has had in defending itself against Russia for almost an entire year. “Putin thought he could defeat Ukraine quickly, fracture the NATO alliance and act with impunity. He was wrong,” said General Milley. “Ukraine remains free. They remain independent. NATO and this coalition has never been stronger. And Russia is now a global pariah. And the world remains inspired by Ukrainian bravery and resilience. In short, Russia has lost.”
