Today, President Joe Biden is welcoming President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil to the White House.
The two presidents will discuss concerns surrounding democracy, human rights, and the environment. Another matter they are expected to cover is the United States’ participation in a multilateral fund that is addressing the deforestation of the Amazon in Brazil.
Norway and Germany have supported the Amazon Fund, which is an initiative aimed at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. The climate and conservation program had been put on hold under the previous Brazilian administration.
