Troop presence is part of a “good relationship” with U.S.
Prime Minister Mohamed al-Sudani of Iraq plans to send a delegation to the United States next month. The discussions of the high-level delegations will include the continuance of a U.S. military presence in his country. The U.S. has a similar relationship with Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf oil and gas producers.
The prime minister stated that Iraqi units need training from foreign forces, including those from NATO, in order to counter the Islamic State. He said the “elimination of ISIS needs some more time.“
Iran is allied with Iraq in mutual support against the Islamic State, due in part to both governments operating on a Shi’ite system of governance.
“I don’t see this as an impossible matter, to see Iraq have a good relationship with Iran and the U.S.,” Prime Minister Sudani said.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the president and U.S. officials as they evaluate the need for U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf.
- For the Iraqi prime minister as he sends the delegation for talks with the U.S.
- For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the U.S. alliances and partnerships with other nations.
