If you walk in My statutes and observe My commandments and do them, then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase. – Leviticus 26:3-4
The power of the United States government has, at times, been misused. On this day in 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which evicted and incarcerated nearly all 120,000 Japanese Americans in domestic military encampments. Two years into this practice, the Supreme Court unanimously voted to overturn Executive Order 9066, and the camps were shut down by 1946. President Gerald Ford formally apologized for the internment in 1976, and President Jimmy Carter launched an investigation concluded by President Ronald Reagan that led President George H.W. Bush to issue personal redress payments to all surviving victims of the encampments. Genuine repentance is marked by a change of heart and behavior, as well as restitution for the wrongs committed.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For the president and his advisors as they promote and facilitate equity and social justice programs.
- For the descendants of the various peoples and racial groups who were mistreated or abused by the federal government.
