U.S. will implement COVID screening starting January 5.
President Biden’s administration has announced that passengers on flights coming to the U.S. from China, Hong Kong, or Macau will have to test negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of departure beginning January 5. Taiwan, Japan, India, and Italy have already put the same restrictions in place amid concerns about the surge of infections since China has eased its stringent zero-COVID policy.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that all travelers 2 years and older will be required to be tested, regardless of vaccination status or nationality. Those who test positive more than 10 days ahead of their flight can provide a document showing their recovery in lieu of a negative test result.
The U.S. is taking precautions due to the lack of transparent data from China on the virus.
