Georgia and Pennsylvania are the 24th and 25th states to have programs approved by HHS.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced last week that Georgia and Pennsylvania became the 25th and 26th states to expand their Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). This expansion offers an extra 12 months of Medicaid coverage to new mothers and an extra 12 months of CHIP coverage to newborns after pregnancy.
“Medicaid covers approximately 40 percent of all births nationwide, and one-fourth of pregnancy-related deaths occur between one and a half months and one year postpartum,” said Vice President Kamala Harris. “Our Administration will keep fighting until every woman has access to expanded postpartum Medicaid coverage.”
