Being trained in taxpayer rights and technical account management.
The Internal Revenue Service announced that 4,000 additional customer service representatives have been hired and are being trained to answer taxpayer questions during the 2023 tax season.
The move was made possible when Congress gave the IRS an $80 billion boost in funding over the next decade under the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law in August. The funds are meant to help rebuild the agency that had not seen additional funding in decades.
The IRS says it is still working on how it will spend the extra $80 billion but emphasized that resources will be focused on improving customer service and scrutiny of high-income earners. The most recent hires are being trained in taxpayer rights and technical account management issues, they said.
“We have been unable to provide the help that IRS employees want to give and that the nation’s taxpayers deserve,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig stated, “but help is on the way for taxpayers.”
“As the newly hired employees are trained and move online in 2023, we will have more assistors on the phone than any time in recent history,” he added.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Commissioner Rettig as he comes to the end of his term as head of the IRS.
- For wisdom for Douglas O’Donnell as he will act as IRS commissioner later this month.
- For members of Congress as they allot taxpayer funds through government spending.
