Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the school shooting in St. Louis “senseless violence” and called for additional action to stop gun violence. She urged members of the Senate to “send an assault weapons ban to the president’s desk.“
The Department of Justice announced that U.S. action is being taken in cases “targeting malign influence schemes and alleged criminal activity” by a nation-state actor that constitutes national security concerns. The department did not name a country or entity or provide any other details.
Pray for wisdom and clarity for the White House Press Secretary as she faces the press daily with messages from the president.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said he will hold a hearing on electric vehicle batteries and sourcing issues if there is a change in control of the Senate after the November elections. He said the hearing would look at the impact on automakers from the shift to EVs.
Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina acknowledged in an interview that President Biden’s administration and members of the congressional majority knew some of their moves would spur inflation. “All of us knew this would be the case when we put in place this recovery program. Any time you put more money into the economy, prices tend to rise,” he said.
Pray for members of Congress as they prepare for changes that will come after the midterm elections.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
The House January 6 committee announced it had formally subpoenaed former President Donald Trump. In a joint statement, Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi and Vice Chair Liz Cheney of Wyoming said that they “have assembled overwhelming evidence“ that President Trump “personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power.”
Minority members on the House Ways and Means Committee asked the IRS to keep all documents related to its 2021 decision to destroy millions of taxpayer filings and indicated a deeper congressional inquiry is coming if there is a change in the control of Congress in the midterm elections.
Pray for the members of congressional committees as they head into a lame-duck session.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett rejected a request from a Wisconsin group to block President Biden’s student debt forgiveness plan the same day a federal judge rejected a separate bid from some state attorneys general to block the implementation.
The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals issued an administrative stay temporarily blocking President Biden’s plan to cancel millions of dollars in federal student loan debt. It issued the stay while it considers a motion to block the loan cancellation program. The stay ordered President Biden’s administration not to act on the program while it considers the appeal.
Pray for the judges and justices of the courts that are considering challenges to the student loan forgiveness program.
