Praying for Our Leaders in Government
Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
President Joe Biden recently cautioned that the risk of a nuclear conflict is at its highest since the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. His comments came as Russia faces continuing setbacks on the battlefields of Ukraine and Kyiv has warned of a growing threat to civilians from Russian drone attacks.
A new committee created by the Treasury Department called the Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity intends to “reform” capitalism. Secretary Janet Yellen says the committee will advise the department on how “to advance racial equity in the economy and address the disparities for communities of color.” Secretary Yellen has also called for the World Bank Group and other multilateral development banks to revamp their business models to address global needs such as climate change.
Pray for wisdom for President Biden and members of his Cabinet.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
A letter from Representative Michael Waltz of Florida and 10 other House members to the White House and Energy Secretary Granholm calls on President Biden’s administration to investigate the Chinese government’s economic espionage efforts at U.S. research labs. The request follows a report regarding Beijing’s apparent extensive efforts at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, U.S. weapons and nuclear research site.
Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Ted Cruz of Texas sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pointing out the DHS secretary’s failure to enforce immigration law and address the drug and human trafficking crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. They describe this as a “gross dereliction of duty and violation of his oath of office, and, if not corrected swiftly, could provide grounds for impeachment.”
Pray for members of Congress as they seek to hold officials in the executive branch accountable.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
Senator Bob Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is urging fellow members to “immediately freeze all aspects” of U.S. cooperation with Saudi Arabia, to block future U.S. weapons sales to the kingdom, and take other actions, after the decision to cut oil production.
Pray for members of Congressional committees that are working on budgetary matters such as the Defense Authorization Act.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of a Texas judge who opens his courtroom proceedings with prayer. One of the judge’s attorneys said the appeals court recognized “the history, character, and context of his opening ceremony—which includes welcoming volunteer chaplains of all faiths to lead invocations according to the diverse traditions of those faiths—comports with the Constitution.”
A federal judge ruled that the policies of President Biden’s administration that allow LGBTQ+ individuals to use the bathroom of their chosen gender identity went too far. The judge said that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act gives protections to employees relative to discriminatory hiring but that does not necessarily include “all correlated conduct” such as bathroom and pronoun use.
Pray for America’s judges as they deal with cultural issues that would change the nature of American society and the rule of law.
