Death toll has reached over 70.
Recovery efforts continue across the state of Florida, especially in Orange County and Lee County, among the hardest hit by the storm. Power has been restored to approximately 2 million residences but roughly 800,000 are still without.
As of Friday, FEMA said more than 1,600 people have been rescued. The Lee County Sheriff reported having rescued between 600 and 700 people on Saturday. Over 1,000 search and rescue teams have been working in the 14 Florida counties impacted by the hurricane.
The confirmed number of fatalities in Florida has reached 76, with most of the deaths attributed to drowning. In addition, four deaths in North Carolina have been attributed to Hurricane Ian.
