We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. – 2 Corinthians 4:2
Today’s marketing strategies involve attractive packaging and bold statements of the product’s worth. Sometimes only the very tiny words at the bottom of the package present possible precautions. In the days of the apostle Paul, many false teachers attempted to direct people’s attention from the complete truth of the Gospel to some “hidden mystery” only they could explain, thus using manipulation to obtain power, money, or influence with the people. Many accused Paul of doing the same.
However, Paul’s message still was, and always had been, one of bold presentation of the truth of the Gospel. There were no small words of caution or hidden messages that only one person could explain. Many Greeks determined the message was foolishness, and to some Jews it was a stumbling block, but Paul’s message was always the truth (1 Corinthians 1:23). He had been part of the Pharisaical group who had rejected Christ but, after he was born again, Paul was steadfast in his message of God’s saving grace through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Today there are those who preach with great enthusiasm, but their teaching falls short of the truth. They prefer approval of men, conveying only what their listeners want to hear instead of teaching “the Word of God [that] is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing… discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
Believer, are you being pricked by the Word of God as it is preached? Intercede for the public officials of this nation to seek and hold fast to the truth. Pray that God’s Word would be proclaimed with nothing added nor taken away from the truth. Then be bold and stand firm in your faith!
Today’s Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:2
But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to keep your righteous rules.
I hate the double-minded,
but I love your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in your word.
Hold me up, that I may be safe
and have regard for your statutes continually!
