Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration
Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to Ukraine, pledging additional support from the U.S. as the war-torn country seeks to recapture territory overtaken by Russian forces. He met with top Ukrainian officials in Kyiv. It was his second trip to the country since Russia invaded in late February.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen recently spoke about the intention of the administration to rid the U.S. of “our current dependence on fossil fuels.” She stated, “Our plan—powered by the Inflation Reduction Act—represents the largest investment in fighting climate change in our country’s history. I will put us well on our way toward a future where we depend on the wind, sun, and other clean sources for our energy.”
Pray for the president and members of the Cabinet as they work through the administration’s agenda for both foreign and domestic policy issues.
Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress
Representatives Carolyn Maloney of New York and James Clyburn of South Carolina have called on the Deputy Inspector General of the Treasury to launch an investigation into airlines companies’ use of pandemic funds, as thousands of flights across the U.S. continue to be canceled or delayed.
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas delayed committee passage of a Senate bill that would have offered small- to mid-sized media companies exemptions to federal antitrust laws to enable them to collaborate with large tech companies to control what users can view. “What is preeminent to me is whether this bill is going to increase or decrease censorship,” he said.
Pray for members of Congress as the September 30 deadline for funding the government approaches.
PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES
Minority members of the House Oversight Committee are directing the Department of Homeland Security “conduct an immediate investigation’ on whether the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster relief funds were used to purchase Chinese solar panels possibly made by Uyghur slave labor.
The House committee investigating the January 6 incident at the Capitol is resuming public hearings, following their August recess. The first hearing could come as early as September 28.
Pray for wisdom for congressional committee members as they conduct hearings and investigations.
Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges
Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch said the committee investigating the leaking of the Supreme Court draft opinion for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has yet to issue a finding and he has no timeline for its release.
A federal judge has ruled that the Department of Health and Human Services did not provide any “compelling” evidence in arguing that “private, religious corporations” should be required to cover HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis “with no cost sharing and no religious exemptions.” He decided that requiring employers to cover that medication is a violation of their rights.
Pray for those on the committee that is investigating the leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade.
