Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen gave a speech in Detroit, Michigan, on Thursday in support of the strategies of President Biden’s economic agenda ahead of midterm elections. Notable legislation has been passed recently to boost domestic manufacturing, and Secretary Yellen emphasized that President Biden’s administration will not repeat the selective investment strategies of the past.
“We know that a disproportionate share of economic opportunity has been concentrated in major coastal cities. Investments from the Biden economic plan have already begun shifting this dynamic,” Secretary Yellen said. “Given its manufacturing focus – and manufacturing’s reliance on strong infrastructure and supply chains – we expect to see dollars catalyze innovative investments across cities and towns that haven’t seen such investment in years.”
